Bitcoin Hashrate Nears Record Despite Declining Mining Revenue

Bitcoin’s seven-day average hashrate reached approximately 1,074 exahashes per second (EH/s) on Oct. 28, only 6.8% below the record 1,153 EH/s registered in October 2025.

The recovery suggests that miners have brought previously unprofitable equipment back online or deployed new capacity. Bitcoin’s average hashrate rose from about 900 EH/s in July to 1,025 EH/s in October, its highest monthly level since December 2025. Since hashrate cannot be measured directly, providers estimate it from block production times, and readings may differ slightly.

The increase in computing power has intensified competition among miners. Hashprice averaged around $36 over the seven days through Wednesday, approximately 23% lower than a year earlier.

Bitcoin mining difficulty increased by 5.92% to 140.58 trillion on Oct. 16. The next adjustment, expected at block 973,728, could raise difficulty by another 6.3% to approximately 149.4 trillion. If Bitcoin’s price and transaction fees remain unchanged, the adjustment could push hashprice down to around $34.

Transaction fees currently provide little additional revenue. In a recent 144-block sample, fees accounted for only 0.46% of total miner rewards, with nearly all income coming from Bitcoin’s fixed block subsidy.
